October is Canadian Library Month! During this month, libraries and library partners across Canada raise awareness of the valuable role libraries play in Canadians’ lives.
For 2026, Ontario Public Library Week will take place from October 18 to October 24, 2026, and the theme is “Loud for Libraries."

The following events that are happening all month long!
Visit your local branch to see if you can guess how many candies are in the jar! We will have the jars on display throughout October, so you will have plenty of time to make your guess!
The winner will receive the jar of candy to enjoy!
Do you hear that sound coming from the bookshelves? Oh no... The library is haunted! Find our 3D printed ghosts hiding around the library! Keep one for yourself and hide the rest!
Create your very own Funny Pumpkin that can be used to decorate your house this Halloween!
A fun craft for children ages 4-8.
Participate in our library-themed BINGO game, pick up your BINGO sheet in branch. For all ages, a winner will be chosen in November.

Join us at the King City Branch for a special afternoon with Canadian author Edward Y.C. Lee, author of The Laundryman's Boy. Discover the inspiration behind his compelling novel as Edward shares insights into his writing journey and the themes explored in his work.
Participate in an engaging Q&A session with the author. With a chance to purchase a signed copy of The Laundryman's Boy for $20 following the presentation.

Presented by David T. Chapman, If you enjoy bird watching, then this is the presentation for you! Everything from the small backyard visitors that we all know and love, to some of the largest birds like the Bald Eagle and Great Blue Heron. Check out rare visitors to our area, like the Painted Bunting and Northern Hawk Owl. Watch an owl family grow up and leave the nest. Learn how you can enhance your birding experience. See both still images and video of these fascinating and colourful characters and more.

We covered the beautiful backyard birds along with birds of prey. In this program, you will see some different photos and videos of these birds again, along with additions like warblers, winter finches, and herons. We will also be looking at the nesting process of owls and a particular, popular songbird that generally everyone has had the pleasure of enjoying in their own yard. This show will have humour, bloopers, and facts along with stunning imagery that audiences of any age will enjoy.

Join Andrea Gunraj, author of Go-Between Girl: My Indentured Roots as Reclaimed Present, for a reading and short moderated discussion exploring the stories families pass down—and the silences that shape us just as deeply. Drawing on her Indo-Caribbean heritage, Gunraj reflects on universal themes of memory, migration, identity, and belonging, inviting audiences of all backgrounds to consider their own spoken and underspoken legacies. A compelling conversation about how the past lives within us, what we carry forward, and how storytelling helps us understand where we come from.
A Q&A and book signing will follow the presentation. Copies of Andrea Gunraj's book will be available for purchase.

Save resources, packaging, transportation costs, and money this year by swapping a costume instead of buying a new one! You can drop off your old costumes at the library in exchange for a token that will let you get something new to you on your swap day! This event is first come, first serve so please come early if you are looking for something specific!
We will be accepting costumes for all ages and sizes at all three branches - King City, Nobleton and Schomberg - during the month of October.
Please only donate costumes in great condition, with no rips or stains, and with all the pieces.
