October is Canadian Library Month! During this month, libraries and library partners across Canada raise awareness of the valuable role libraries play in Canadians’ lives.
For 2025, Ontario Public Library Week will take place from October 19 to October 25, 2025, and the theme is “Libraries For Life."
Month Long Programs
The following events that are happening all month long!
Visit your local branch to see if you can guess how many candies are in the jar! We will have the jars on display throughout October, so you will have plenty of time to make your guess!
The winner will receive the jar of candy to enjoy!
Celebrate your creativity and connect with fellow writers by entering our Writing Contest. Whether a poem, short story, or song, we want to celebrate your writing!
- The contest begins on Wednesday, October 1, and submissions must be submitted online by Wednesday, October 15.
- We are accepting poems, short stories, or songs. You can use our Sound Booth to record your piece and submit it to us.
- Written pieces will be voted upon as a blind review (with identifying information removed) by library staff. Three lucky wordsmiths will be announced as the winners!
- The contest will be divided into three age categories: Ages 6-12, 13-17, & 18+
- Winners will be announced on our Social Media pages - Make sure to follow us!
- All pieces must be submitted online to info@kinglibrary.ca
Do you hear that sound coming from the bookshelves? Oh no... The library is haunted! Find our 3D printed ghosts hiding around the library! Keep one for yourself and hide the rest!
Create your very own Monster Windsock that can be used to decorate your house this Halloween!
A fun craft for children ages 4-8.
Participate in our library-themed BINGO game, pick up your BINGO sheet in branch. For all ages, a winner will be chosen in November.

This Canadian Library Month, celebrate the spirit of Diwali with a fun-filled Bollywood Dance Workshop! Open to all ages and experience levels, this high-energy session will get you moving to vibrant Bollywood beats while learning easy-to-follow steps. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned dancer, come join the joy, rhythm, and festive vibes!
This is a free program for all ages. Please pre-register by calling or visiting your local branch.

Save resources, packaging, transportation costs, and money this year by swapping a costume instead of buying a new one! You can drop off your old costumes at the Library in exchange for a token that will let you get something new to you on your swap day! This event is first-come, first-serve, so please come early if you are looking for something specific!
We will be accepting costumes for all ages and sizes, in our Schomberg Branch on October 7, 8, & 9 from 10 am - 8 pm. And on October 11, from 10 am - 5 pm. Please only donate costumes in great condition with no rips or stains, and with all pieces.

Join us for an evening in conversation with local author Brianne Sommerville to discuss her new thriller, “What She Left Behind". Follow along as a woman uncovers dark secrets hidden in a tragic past.
Brianne Sommerville will do a reading and answer questions about her book. Interested readers can also buy a signed copy directly from her for $24.99.

Celebrate Canadian Library Month with KTPL and visit the Lab during lunch and use our Cricut machine to design and create your own custom stickers! You choose the images, we’ll prep them together with Cricut Design Software, then print, cut, and voilà—your stickers are ready to take and stick wherever you like! This is a free drop-in program for ages 15+.
